The Development of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Oriented Activities (Visual Materials and Applied Trainings) for Natural Stone Mining Sector to Prevent Occupational Accidents and Injuries

Regarding to the call for proposals for the "Development of Occupational Health and Safety Grant Scheme" published by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Labor and Social Security (Directorate of European Union and Financial Assistance) on 27/12/2018, EuropeAid/162207/ID/ACT/TR – Development of Occupational Health and Safety Grant Scheme (IOHS) Project application has been made by Aegean Minerals & Natural Stones Exporters' Association, which is within the body of our General Secretariat.

The project which is under the reference number EuropeAid/162207/ID/ACT/TR/8 and is titled as “The Development of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Oriented Activities (Visual Materials and Applied Trainings) for Natural Stone Mining Sector to Prevent Occupational Accidents and Injuries” became entitled to receive a grant and a grant agreement was signed with the Ministry, which is the contracting authority, on 09.12.2020.

The total budget of the project which will be carried out with the project partnership of Dokuz Eylül University Mining Engineering Department is 206.398.50 Euro and the rate of grant support is 89.17%. The aim of the project which will last for 18 months is to increase the awareness  and development of the occupational health and safety in the natural stone mining sector in Turkey so as to reduce occupational accidents and injuries. With the aforementioned study, the below results are foreseen; raising awareness about raising occupational health and safety in the natural stone mining sector to the level of European Union countries, developing a preventive healthcare and safety culture in the natural stone mining sector, increasing university-industry cooperation in the natural stone mining sector. Thus, the occupational accidents and injuries in the natural stone mining sector in Turkey, the increasing of the reputation of the sector and the developing of new approaches in the mining sector are expected.
